Utoo Radio with Other News Sources - February 23, 2025 - On the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the U.N. General Assembly is set to vote on two resolutions: Ukraine's European-backed proposal for an immediate withdrawal of Russian forces and a U.S. call for a swift end to the war that does not mention Moscow's aggression.
The U.S. pressured Ukraine to withdraw its nonbinding resolution in favor of its proposal, but Ukraine refused.
The vote is expected to reflect tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine after President Donald Trump opened negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict.
The Trump administration has escalated rhetoric, calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "dictator" and falsely accusing Kyiv of starting the war.
The U.S. also wanted a vote on its proposal in the U.N. Security Council, which is scheduled for Monday.
The General Assembly has become the most important U.N. body on Ukraine due to Russia's veto power.
The votes on the rival resolutions will be closely watched to assess the backing for Trump's effort to negotiate an end to the fighting.
